Numerous trees or branches of trees were blown down blocking most of the roads into the village. Residents trying to return home had to make considerable detours to avoid the problems and at one stage the only road that was still open into the village was that over the level crossing at Leaton. Fortunately a number of people were able to use their own chain saws to cut up fallen branches. The road was also blocked in Preston Gubbals where a branch had also brought down the electricity cables. |
